Origin Story

Back in 2020, the world slowed down — but my mind didn't. As the pandemic hit and we all adjusted to working from home, I found myself stuck with a small problem: I didn't have a doorbell.

I wasn't about to splurge on a fancy Nest system — Wi-Fi issues, battery charging, and the cost didn't make sense. I needed something simple. Something contactless. Something that just worked. So I decided to build it myself.

What Is Da Buzzer?

At its core, Da Buzzer is a QR code doorbell. One scan triggers a notification to multiple devices. That's it. No wires, no batteries, no chargers, no Wi-Fi required.

It was perfect during the pandemic. But over time, the use cases expanded far beyond that. In areas with unreliable electricity or no internet — places dealing with load shedding or unstable infrastructure — Da Buzzer becomes more than a workaround. It becomes the only viable option.

A product like Da Buzzer just works because it relies on something everyone already has: a smartphone.

The Build

Before this, I barely knew app development. I had dabbled in a bit of React but didn't really know how to make a full product. But necessity is a great motivator. I dove in headfirst — learning React, Firebase, Google Cloud, API management — you name it.

My days started at 4 AM working on Da Buzzer. Then I'd log into my day job at 9, finish by evening, and start coding again after my kid went to bed. Nights blurred into mornings. I spent hours on Stack Overflow, debugging, reading, helping others. Bit by bit, the app started to come to life.

Tech Stack

Four Years, Countless Lessons

Over the years, Da Buzzer became more than just a side project. It felt like a startup — minus the investors. I wore all the hats: product designer, engineer, marketer, tech support.

Fast forward to today — building the same kind of features that took weeks now takes a few hours thanks to AI. I recently added multilingual support to the Da Buzzer Android app in less than a day using modern AI tools.
